Meet the FLORENCE ROBY Team: Jeanette

As we continue with our meet the team blog series, we talk to Florence Roby’s long-standing general manager, Jeanette. It’s fair to say Jeanette has seen it all, from hand-drawn orders to high-tech systems, she’s been keeping things calm and collected at Florence Roby since the 80s.

Name:

Jeanette Webster

Job title:

General Manager

How long have you been working with Florence Roby?

I started straight from school in 1988 and 37 years later, I am still here. It’ll be my 37th work anniversary this August!

Tell us a little bit about the job you do…

I do a bit of everything, except the sewing. I’m involved in all the behind-the-scenes work that keep the business ticking from answering customer queries and checking accounts to generally keeping the chaos at bay.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Emails. Queries. Orders. Customer accounts. It’s not always very glamorous, but it’s the backbone of what keeps our customers happy and our team organised. I’m calm and organised, even when everyone around me is stressed.

What’s your most memorable moment?

When we moved into our purpose-built premises back in 2004, I was on-site in steel-toe boots, a hard hat and a hi-vis jacket – not quite my usual uniform, but unforgettable all the same!

What do you think sets Florence Roby apart?

We always look at what’s on trend in the high street and try to bring that into our designs where we can. We don’t just make uniforms, we make them fashionable – professional doesn’t have to mean plain.

Describe the company culture in three words…

Friendly. Supportive. Ever evolving.

What was your favourite thing to do as a child?

Roller skating

Tell us something about you that most people don’t know?

I’m an open book, so most people who know me already know everything about me.

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Cheese on toast

What’s the weirdest thing on your desk right now?

An old toy my daughters gave me. It’s slightly odd, I think it’s one of the Little Miss characters, but I wouldn’t part with it.

What would you sing at a karaoke night?

I’d never sing karaoke; I hate it!

If you could host a talk show, who would be your first guest?

If he was still alive George Michael. But in the here and now, Julie Walters – I think she would be a great guest.

What’s the most out-of-character thing you’ve ever done?

An army assault course for charity.
