The Importance of a Good Uniform

When it comes to the hospitality and wellness industries, first impressions matter – uniforms are often the first thing a guest notices. At Florence Roby, we believe uniform design goes far beyond aesthetics. It’s about identity, functionality, comfort and confidence. Florence Roby’s director Jan Roby shares her expert insights into why good uniforms remain one of the most powerful tools in your brand’s toolkit.

Why is uniform design important?

Don’t underestimate the significance of a really good uniform that your staff feel comfortable and confident in – it says a lot about your brand and sets the tone for both staff and guest experiences. Being professionally dressed empowers your staff to perform at their best and helps them to feel like part of a team.

Whether you’re managing a luxury spa, a boutique hotel or a beauty salon, your uniform is a daily ambassador for your brand. A good design helps your team feel united and reinforces a sense of belonging and professionalism, which can have a tangible effect on performance.

For guests, uniforms create a strong first impression and reinforce your brand’s identity, especially if they incorporate your logo, brand colours or a distinct design.  What your staff wears will contribute to the overall aesthetic, especially if it aligns with your decor and theme.

Do customers really notice staff uniforms?

Absolutely, more often than you think. And more importantly, they certainly notice if uniforms are ill fitting, poor quality or just not quite right. When uniforms are mismatched or appear worn out, it stand outs and detracts from the overall ambience.

Co-ordinated, high-quality uniforms show a sense of structure and attention to detail, plus they help guests easily identify staff, which is essential in service environments where discretion is key.

What are your thoughts on sustainability?

At Florence Roby, we are the very opposite of fast fashion. Our garments are made from quality fabrics that last and last, which we believe is the foundation of true sustainability. We design with longevity in mind – our uniforms are crafted from high-quality, performance-driven fabrics that resist fading, shrinking and wear.

There are innovations in fabrics and production all the time so , later this year, we’ll be bringing in a new fabric made from 57% recycled fibres, combining ethical innovation with our signature quality.

What uniform trends are you seeing?

Minimalist design is trending right now; less is more when it comes to uniforms. Spas especially are seeking out sleek, minimalist designs in understated colours with subtle brand accents, moving away from overly bold designs. Personalisation is also trending. A well-placed logo or monogrammed name will create a sense of individuality for employees while still offering a connected look for guests.

This shift towards simplicity allows your service to shine. Small details like embroidered logos and piped trims in brand colours create a sophisticated look while helping your branding stand out.
